Jacob's Ladder works differently from any other cardio machine on this list: instead of a motor or a fixed pedal stride, you climb a continuously rotating ladder set at roughly a 40-degree angle, using an opposite hand-and-foot climbing pattern to advance the rungs yourself. Because the ladder is self-paced, the machine only works as hard as you push it, from an easy warm-up pace near the bottom rungs to an all-out sprint higher up. It's a low-impact motion on the joints despite the intensity, since there's no repetitive foot-strike the way there is on a treadmill.
