This particular LX8000 offers 10 increments of lateral width, so a member can start with a tight, stair-climber-style stride and gradually open it into a wider, skating-like sweep as they get comfortable with the motion. Widening that stride shifts more of the work onto the inner and outer thighs, which is the main reason facilities keep a LateralX next to their standard ellipticals instead of swapping one out for the other. The handlebars follow a converging path rather than staying in a fixed position, so the arms move through a natural swing instead of a locked-in reach.
